Summer Employment Opportunities

Eligibility

To be eligible for a summer student position with the Township of Coleman applicants must be between 15 and 24 years of age as of the first day of employment, and registered as a full-time student (i.e. secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program), and intends to return to full-time studies in the fall, or is within six months of graduation.

One (1) Head Lifeguard/ Instructor position available for eight weeks (Monday to Friday)

To be eligible, candidates must be certified lifeguards and qualified swim instructors. The successful candidates will work in an outdoor environment at Bass Lake beach, and will teach and develop swimming strokes and skills for all levels of the Life Saving Society Swim Program. Communicates with the general public and coworkers to give swimming lesson instructions, and enforce beach rules to guard public safety and resolve problems. Completes written documents regarding accidents, incidents, and swimming lessons. Makes daily entries into a logbook outlining the day’s activities, as well as a daily debrief with supervisor.

Qualifications:

National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification & Qualified Swim Instructor

Bronze Cross

Standard First Aid/CPR C

Two (2) Lifeguard/ Instructor positions are available for eight weeks (Monday to Friday)

To be eligible, candidates must be certified lifeguards and qualified swim instructors. The successful candidates will work in an outdoor environment at Bass Lake beach, and will teach and develop swimming strokes and skills for all levels of the Life Saving Society Swim Program. The instructors will also provide swimmer progress reports. During rainy days, the instructors will be expected to perform other duties that do not pertain to the Swim Program.

One (1) Recreation Coordinator position is available for eight weeks (Monday to Friday)

The Recreation Coordinator will work in an outdoor environment at Bass Lake beach, and will be responsible to plan and carry-out all activities for participants of Coleman’s Swim and Recreation Program (all ages). The successful candidate will plan, demonstrate and instruct recreational activities, while enforcing safety rules. During rainy days, the coordinator will be expected to perform other duties that do not pertain to the Recreation program.

Standard First Aid/CPR C Summer Employment Opportunities

One (1) Bass Lake Labourer position is available for up to fourteen weeks

The successful candidate will work in an outdoor environment at Bass Lake Park, and will work under the direction of the Bass Lake Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to basic gardening activities, including turf maintenance and weed control, part caretaking, painting and general maintenance.

Qualifications:

Able to operate small tools and equipment (lawnmowers, weed eaters, power tools etc.)

Able to work with and without direct supervision

Able to perform physical work in an outdoor environment

Must provide own CSA approved steel-toed boots (in good condition)

Two (2) Public Works Labourer positions are available for up to fourteen weeks (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will work in the Coleman Public Works Department and will work under the direction of the Works Foreman. Duties include garbage collection and general maintenance.

Qualifications:

Able to operate small tools and equipment (lawnmowers, weed eaters, power tools etc.)

Able to work with and without direct supervision

Able to perform physical work in an outdoor environment

Must provide own CSA approved steel-toed boots (in good condition)
